Bear Viewing Experience

Experience the adventure of a lifetime with some of Homer's expert bush pilots who will take you on a breathtaking flight across Cook Inlet and deep into Katmai or Lake Clark National Parks. Witness the majesty of the bears in their natural habitat on a once-in-a-lifetime bear viewing excursion.

During the tour, you will have ample opportunity to watch Alaskan brown bears play and eat in a beautiful river mouth. Your waders will come in handy as your guides lead you through a shallow river, stopping on sandbars and at the water’s edge to take in the views. 

Participants must be able to walk up to five miles in four hours and be comfortable navigating uneven surfaces.

What is the best month to see bears in Alaska?

Prime bear viewing season in Alaska is Summer.  The best bear viewing is from June through Late September during the salmon run.

Where is Alaska is the best place to see bears?

Homer, Alaska has the best access to wild bear populations along the coast. While Alaska has a lot of bears, there's no better concentration than the area between Lake Clark National Park and Katmai National Park. Famous locations such as Brooks Falls offer guests an unparalleled opportunity to see these incredible animals up-close in their natural environment. 

How likely is it to see a bear in Alaska?

It's virtually guaranteed on our tours. While these Alaskan coastal brown bears are wild animals that roam freely, our experienced guides know the particular spots they frequent day after day and year after year.

Are kids allowed on bear viewing trips?

The minimum age requirement for these trips is 8 years old. 

How many people can join?

Destination Alaska has four planes available, ranging from a max of 5 to 9 people.

What happens if a trip is canceled?

If a trip gets canceled because the pilots determine it is unsafe to fly, you will receive a 100% refund.

*Please note we are not able to confirm your reservation with Destination Alaska until we receive the weights of each participant and clear it with them. Each plane has a maximum weight capacity that must be taken into consideration when planning these trips.

When you book a fishing trip through Baycrest Lodge, you’ll have the opportunity to go after halibut, salmon, and rockfish aboard one of Homer’s finest charter boats, the Alaska Endeavor.

This custom-built vessel is equipped with triple Yamaha 450 FX's, highly sophisticated electronics, and a Seakeeper 6 stabilization system that will substantially reduce sea sickness.

How long is a halibut fishing trip?

Trips last 8-10 hours and prices depend on which combination of salmon, rockfish and halibut you’d like to fish for.
