"If you only visit one place in Alaska, start with Homer."

Baycrest Lodge Guestbook

Homer is a scenic coastal paradise that’s located at the end of the road in south central Alaska. While it may be a small town, Homer is incredibly lively; it’s full of vibrant people that keep it interesting and fun. Offering a unique balance of business, arts, food and adventure, we’re convinced that Homer is the best place to visit in Alaska.

Getting to Homer

If you wish to fly directly into Homer, Kenai Aviation or RAVN Alaska offers daily flights from Anchorage and a variety of other airports in the state. The flight from Anchorage is short and sweet. Plus, the views from their smaller planes are fantastic.

The next best way to get to Homer is to fly into Anchorage (ANC), rent a car and drive down. Rentals tend to be more affordable in Anchorage and the views on the 4-5 hour drive through Turnagain Pass and the Kenai Peninsula are incredible.

Alaska Bus Company offers affordable shuttle services between Anchorage and Homer in the summer. Their buses feature luxury leather seats and large windows. With a 48 hour cancellation policy, you can book your trip knowing that it’s easy to change plans if needed. Best of all, when you book with Alaska Bus Company, you’re supporting local Homer business owners!

Getting around Homer

If you won’t have your own car when you get to Homer, you can reserve one at Adventure Alaska Car Rentals. Rental cars in Homer are limited so make sure you make a reservation well in advance - especially if you plan on visiting in the summer!

Homer also has taxis if you aren’t able to secure a rental car. Here are your two options and their phone numbers:

Nick's Taxi: 907-399-5553
Kostas Taxi: 907-399-8008

Unfortunately, car ride services like Uber and Lyft are not available in Homer. However, there are some limited options on Turo.

FISHING & OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

Widely known as the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World, Homer is the port of choice for some of the finest fishing charters around. Depending on the season, you can hunt for some beautiful fish like Halibut, Salmon, and Rockfish. Countless charter vessels are docked along the historic Homer Spit and we can help you choose the best.

You can fly with some of Alaska’s most renowned bush pilots over glaciers, snowcapped mountains and volcanoes. There is also plenty of opportunity to immerse yourself in the wild with guided (or solo) hiking and kayaking expeditions.
